This scene crossing the Steam Boat Hot Springs, took place on a ride, rounding up cattle for the Callahan Ranch one freezing cold morning in January.
The Steamboat Hot Springs lies at the bottom of Mount Rose near Reno. The ground here is a series of crevices that bubble up hot steam and water. Cooked by the fires of hell and cooled in the bright light of a cold Nevada morning.
