This fascinating 1981 paperback study by a Ghanaian scholar compares Traditional understandings of health, religion and healing among the Akans of Ghana with Western conceptions, and the interaction between Western and Traditional models in modern African society. He describes in detail the role of spirit possession in indigenous healing, both by priest/priestess healers and in indigenous African church communities, and argues that Western medical practices must be better integrated with traditional medicine to achieve the best health outcomes. Overall a good condition paperback with tight binding and clean unmarked pages. The cover has a bit of light wear including a corner where the paper has torn (see photos). A good reading copy from a smoke free home. See all photos carefully to judge condition.
NOTE: A RARE Book that is currently unavailable outside academic and medical libraries!
