A superb untreated Precious Jelly Fire Opal Cabochon from the Magdalena Mine, Mexico.
Superb play of color and intense fire. What seperates Mexican opal from other Opal is the addition of a second mineral called Rutile. The rutile melts into the fire opal giving it its unique color and play of color flash. Rutile has a very high refractive index meaning that the flashes of color ate made more intense by the rutile. In some specimens you can see the pattern of the rutile forming the rainbow lattice of flashing color.
